b. 1948 in Kobe, Japan
Michiko Itatani has exhibited in over a hundred solo and group
shows since 1973. Public and private collections that are in possession of her work include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinois, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art of Korea in Seoul, Korea.
Itatani speaks passionately of her creative process, saying: “Art is my way of life. I emphasize the process of making art: reading, research, collecting materials, writing, making diagrams and the physical process of making objects. It is my challenge and my reward. I don’t think of anything else while I am in my studio.”
She is currently a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
