Arkadia Olenska-Petryshyn was raised in Ukraine and emigrated to the United States with her parents in 1950. She studied at Hunter College in New York, as well as at the University of Chicago.
Olenska-Petryshyn used primarily lithography and oil in her art production. She exhibited in countless shows in cities like New York, Toronto, Brussels, and countries such as China, as well as her home-country of Ukraine. She served as an editor for Suchasnist, a Ukrainian publication. During a talk about Olenska-Petryshyn, Professor Jaroslaw Leshko said, “Arcadia Olenska-Petryshyn’s life was consumed with art which defined and nurtured her. She brought to the process of the making of art passion, discipline and an immense intellectual curiosity.”
Olenska-Petryshyn, most recognized for her prints of plants and trees, worked and lived in Jersey City, New Jersey, until her tragic death in 1996; she was 61 years old.
