Aka Pereyma was raised in Poland and relocated to Ukraine with her parents in 1940. In 1944, Pereyma and her family moved to Austria and soon after to Germany. In 1950, she immigrated to the United States. In 1959, she settled in Troy, Ohio, where she continues to reside.
She studied at the the Dayton Art Institute from 1960 to 1963 and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1963 until 1964. Pereyma works in various media, creating pieces ranging from welded metal sculptures to drawings, prints, paintings and collages. She draws inspiration from Ukrainian folklore, folk art–she is embracive of her Ukrainian heritage, the Ukrainian character’s specific individuality and mystery.
