Christina Saj, a painter with Ukrainian ancestry, currently lives and works in New Jersey. She received a BA from Sarah Lawrence University, and an MFA from Bard College.
Saj worked with iconographer Petro Cholodny, the Younger, as she sought to master the traditional techniques of Byzantine iconography. This, combined with an interest in early twentieth century modern art, has allowed her to reinterpret “traditional themes and subjects.” Her work synthesizes the ancient and the modern, as well as the abstract and Byzantine traditions.
Saj has had over 25 solo exhibitions, and spoke as a guest lecturer at a number of different institutions. Her works are displayed globally in both private and museum collections.
