After receiving a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1951 and 1952, respectively, Arthur Lerner also studied in Europe at the Academie de la Grand Chaumiere, Paris. Among his many grants and awards are a Fulbright Grant for Study in Italy, an Award for Drawing from the Chicago Festival of the Arts, and a National Endowment of the Arts. Lerner also taught at the Chicago City College and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Lerner’s work is housed in many museums and public collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of American Art (Washington, DC), and U.S. State Department Cultural Division. He exhibited for many years at the Jan Cicero Gallery, Chicago and currently has works on display in Printoworks Gallery, Chicago. In the course of his career, Lerner has also exhibited works in Rome, Florence, and Spoleto Italy.
