News & Announcements

We are honored to share the exhibition The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma on view at the Dayton Art Institute. Pereyma’s works are in UIMA’s permanent collection. She also exhibited with us in our early years.

We would like to offer a round of applause for Lialia Kuchma upon the acquisition of two of her tapestries chosen to be included in the Illinois State Museum's permanent collection.

Kuchma, renowned for her soft-spoken demeanor and gentle disposition, has stood as an unwavering solid pillar of the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art since its inception half a century ago. Despite her diverse studies spanning disciplines such as printmaking, calligraphy, stencil and gold leaf application, sculpture, and photography, it is her self-taught journey into the realm of Ukrainian craft art forms, particularly tapestry, that shines as her primary avenue of creative expression.

On behalf of the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, its Board, and dedicated Staff, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Lialia Kuchma.

IN MEMORIUM

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of our long time Board Member, Orest Hrynewych. Orest and his wife Ulana were long long time members and supporters of our Institute, and Orest subsequently became a Board Member and stayed in that position for over 15 years.

He and a team of UIMA supporters were instrumental in the total re-modeling of our galleries, foyer and archives, into the beautiful building we now share with our community. With his initiative and that of several other Board members, UIMA became the founders of an organization known as the Chicago Cultural Alliance which embraces some of the major art and cultural organizations in our city.

His enduring contributions and commitment to UIMA will remain a fitting tribute to his endeavors on behalf of UIMA. We extend our sincerest condolences to his wife and family and wish him eternalpeace.

Вічная Пам’ять!
