From Inspiration to Creation: Discover the Art of Linocut

Ever wondered how a simple carved surface can become a striking work of art?

Join artist Alex Kostivat at UIMA for a FREE hands-on linocut printmaking workshop, where you'll explore the creative possibilities of color, texture, and design.

Discover techniques such as rainbow roll, chine-collé, and reduction printing, then choose the one that inspires you most to create your own multicolor print.

Inspired by our exhibition celebrating Jacques Hnizdovsky (1915–1985), the acclaimed Ukrainian-American printmaker whose extraordinary images of animals, trees, and nature transformed everyday subjects into unforgettable works of art, this workshop invites you to experience the creative process firsthand.

The exhibition, featuring works from UIMA's Permanent Collection, is part of our 55th anniversary celebration.

Come curious. Leave inspired – and with a little art of your own!

About UIMA

The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) preserves and promotes contemporary art as a shared expression of the Ukrainian and American experience.

Founded by Ukrainian émigré artists in Chicago in 1971, UIMA began with a belief in the power of art to preserve culture, memory, and freedom. Today, that vision has grown into a contemporary museum bringing artists and audiences together across cultures and borders.
