Bernard Cohen
The son of Belarusian immigrants who came to London at the turn of the century, Cohen grew up amongst people who came from the same shtetl as his parents. Bernard Cohen was greatly influenced by American abstract art. His style of work is varied, ranging from colorful string-like forms to floating shapes on minimally colored surfaces.
Cohen studied at the South-West Essex Technical College & School of Art in London between 1949 and 1950, Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London between 1950 and 1951, and the Slade School of Fine Art in London between 1951 and 1954. He has since exhibited regularly in the UK and also internationally.
In 2009, the large scale monograph Bernard Cohen: Work of Six Decades was published by Flowers Gallery in London.
